Dal Fry (Lentils With Special Tempering)

Ingredients :

1 cup Toovar dal 21/2 cups Water 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder 3 tablespoons Oil 3/4 cup Chopped onions 1 teaspoon Chopped garlic 1 teaspoon Chopped ginger 1 teaspoon Chopped green chillies 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds 1 pinch Asafoetida 1 cup Chopped tomatoes 1 teaspoon Chilli powder 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder 1/4 cup Chopped coriander leaves Salt

Recipe Method :

Wash and soak the dal in 21/2 cups of water for about 30 mintues. Pressure cook till the dal is done. Cook uncovered further on a medium flame for 2 mintues. Do not mash the dal. Heat oil in a small pan, add the chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chillies and cumin seeds. Fry on a medium flame for about 3-4 mintues, stirring often. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt, and chopped tomatoes and fry on a high flame for 3 minutes. Add into the cooked dal and mix well. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
